Selected hide pieces based on concept-inspired design of the wholistic understanding about our place and purpose in the world and how this relates to reconciliation among all. Affixed by specially purposed European fashion fabric adhesive and attached to a painted canvas frame.
Concept
The tapestry is an abstract representation of the Indigenous understanding that the world is one. The natural furs are used to display the interrelationship and reciprocity between land, sea, animals, people, and the sky above. The polar lights help show that in the darkest hour we have the power of the light of understanding to reconcile our differences and realize our essential oneness.

Cheryl Fennell
Cheryl Fennell is of Metis background and was born in Yellowknife. Cheryl has traveled around the circumpolar world and has lived in Cambridge Bay, Inuvik, and Fort Smith and now resides in her home town Yellowknife. Cheryl loves to integrate traditional designs with contemporary ideas in a unique way. She prefers to work with sealskin and incorporates it in her sewing projects, such as unique, one-of-a-kind dresses, purses, jewelry, and her latest interest - furniture and art. She loves to help bring awareness of the beauty and usefulness of sealskin by undertaking special projects such as creating sealskin keychains for NWT junior kindergarteners to have and help bring comfort to them at school. Among other projects to promote sealskin, she has also created a limited edition of her sealskin cuffs for Six Shooter Records for National Seal Products Day and a sealskin and sinew bookmark to help promote Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq.
