Vendor Biography

Taalrumiq is an Inuvialuk and Gwich’in (Inuit and Dene) fashion designer, artist, speaker and digital content creator from Tuktuuyaqtuuq, Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Born in a segregated Indian hospital, she grew up on the shores of the arctic ocean with her Inuvialuit family and community, and was named after her great-grandmother at birth by local elders in the customary Inuvialuit way.

Drawing upon her educational background in human ecology, fine art, and secondary education as well as lived experience and traditional knowledge, she shares Inuvialuit culture through meaningful art and fashion, advocacy, indigenizing trends and original content creation. Through her work she highlights the importance and relevance of sealskin, an important traditional material.

Taalrumiq is currently a graduate student at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, in the Master of Fine Art low residency program,  where she is researching and creating a body of work based on Inuvialuit fashion. She resides on the traditional, unceded Ts’msyen territory in Terrace, BC with her husband, their 5 children and dog Munaqsi.
