Born and raised in Pangnirtung, Northwest Territories, now resides in Iqaluit, did not take up sewing until about 10 years ago; largely honing her skills on her own, but always welcomed valuable tips from those around her.
With a background as an instructor at the Arctic College, Maaki has helped to preserve the Inuktitut language by making sure the Inuktitut-speaking public is kept up to date through various medium such as translating documents and simultaneous translations in all levels of government.
Coming from a long line of seamstresses, her prowess shines through in her meticulous work. We recognize, Maaki Kakkik.
